The second half of Tu Ya Main delivers the thrills and passes the test, but overall, the film could have been stronger.
The Background

Tu Yaa Main is a survival thriller directed by Bejoy Nambiar, starring Adarsh Gourav and Shanaya Kapoor in lead roles.

The Story

The film is a remake of the 2018 Thai movie The Pool. It revolves around a couple trapped in an empty swimming pool with a deadly crocodile, fighting for survival against all odds.

The Good

The lead pair, Adarsh and Shanaya, impress with their chemistry, which blends seamlessly into the narrative. Adarsh, in particular, delivers a grounded and natural performance that stands out.

The conflict between the couple is handled decently, and the film shifts gears in the second half when the survival element takes over. The claustrophobic atmosphere and gripping tension work well, keeping viewers engaged.

Adarsh’s reassurance to Shanaya about their future and how their relationship evolves in the face of danger is portrayed effectively. The visuals and music complement the narrative, while the VFX in the crocodile sequences during the second half are impressive.

The Bad

The first half, which focuses on the “rich girl-poor boy” romance and influencer culture, feels slow and unconvincing. The way the lead pair meet and grow close is shown randomly, weakening the emotional impact.

The Worse

Certain scenes feel conveniently written to fit the setup. For instance, Shanaya entering the pool despite warnings or the sudden disappearance of hotel staff could have been executed more convincingly.

The crocodile attacks, though effective in parts, could have been made more threatening and intense to heighten the fear factor.

Takeaway

Adarsh and Shanaya’s performances and the thrilling scenes in the second half work well for the film.

Bottom Line

The second half of Tu Yaa Main delivers the thrills and passes the test, but overall, the film could have been stronger.

Rating: 2.5/5
