There was a time when having six good songs in a film was considered normal. But in today’s Telugu cinema, the situation is not the same, and the movie units are facing a tough time.
Over the past few years, the lack of strong options among music directors has become a serious concern for producers and directors. This has led to the Telugu film producers worrying.
Thaman delivers chartbusters at times, but his consistency is often questioned. DSP (Devi Sri Prasad) has recently stepped into acting with Yellamma, which raises doubts about how frequently he will compose music. Anirudh is highly talented, but he is considered too expensive and is often unable to deliver music on time due to his busy schedule.
Composers like Sam CS and Ajaneesh Loknath have good fame in Telugu as well, but they have not worked with big films or heroes.
At the same time, several talented musicians from the current generation, such as Vivek Sagar, Jakes Bejoy, Vishal Chandrasekhar, Shekar Chandra, Leon James, Sri Charan Pakala, Ghibran, and Gowra Hari, have proved their ability with small and medium-budget films. But to step up to big-ticket projects, they need the right script and strong collaboration with leading directors and top heroes.
In short, Tollywood is at a stage where finding the right music director for big films has become both crucial and challenging.
