Thalaivar 173 will be directed by Cibi Chakravarthy, who is best known for the hit film Don starring Sivakarthikeyan. After the success of Don, Cibi held discussions with a few leading actors, but none of those projects moved forward. Now, he has landed a major opportunity to direct Superstar Rajinikanth.
Adding to the excitement, there is strong buzz that Malayalam actor-director Basil Joseph may play a key role in the film. Reports suggest that Basil could be seen as Rajinikanth’s son in the movie. However, there has been no official confirmation from the makers so far.
Interestingly, Kamal Haasan, who is set to share screen space with Rajinikanth in the much-awaited multistarrer tentatively referred to as KHxRK, will also be producing Thalaivar 173.
Basil Joseph recently impressed audiences with his performance in Ponman (2025), and it will be exciting news for audiences if he is involved in this biggie.
Speaking at the pre-release event of Thaai Kelavi, director Cibi Chakravarthy said, “Very soon, I will be saying ‘action’ and ‘cut’ to the Superstar. We are planning to begin shooting by mid-April this year.”
With such a strong team coming together, Thalaivar 173 is already generating massive anticipation among fans.
