With Love Movie Review

In With Love, Satya’s character occasionally behaves in a silly way, such as checking Monisha’s phone during a crucial moment. Though questioned by Monisha, the scene doesn’t carry the weight it should. Differences between Monisha and Satya’s mindsets are also not explored deeply enough. Anaswara Rajan steals the show in With Love.

The Background:

With Love is a nostalgic romantic drama directed by debutant Madhan and produced by Soundarya Rajinikanth. It stars Tourist Family director Abishan Jeevinth in the lead role, alongside Anaswara Rajan.

The Story:

Satya (Abishan Jeevinth), a designer who avoids marriage, is persuaded by his sister to attend a matchmaking event. There, he meets Monisha (Anaswara Rajan), and during their date, they realize they were once schoolmates. Both regret not expressing their school-time crushes, and Monisha suggests they revisit those old connections to finally share their feelings. The journey that follows changes their lives in unexpected ways.

The Good:

Director Madhan succeeds in taking audiences on a nostalgic trip, using flashbacks and shared memories effectively. The interconnected backstories of Satya and Monisha are handled well. Performances are convincing, with Anaswara Rajan stealing the spotlight through her charm and natural screen presence. Her chemistry with Abishan Jeevinth feels genuine and engaging.

The second half has some endearing highlights, such as Satya meeting his old crush Anisha and finally expressing his feelings, which is a sequence that has been captured beautifully. The fun moments near the climax also work well, giving the film a warm and satisfying ending. The music, though not extraordinary, fits the narrative, while the visuals add authenticity.

The Bad:

Some parts feel forced or overly convenient. For instance, the reunion of Balaji and Monisha lacks the emotional depth of Satya and Anisha’s moment. The subplot involving Saravanan, which could have added more emotion, is handled routinely. A sad song near the climax fails to deliver the intended emotional high.

The Worse:

Satya’s character occasionally behaves in a silly way, such as checking Monisha’s phone during a crucial moment. Though questioned by Monisha, the scene doesn’t carry the weight it should. Differences between Monisha and Satya’s mindsets are also not explored deeply enough.

Screentime:

The film has predictable stretches, especially in the latter half, where viewers may feel distracted.

Takeaway:

The nostalgic charm of school-day romance and the natural chemistry between the lead pair hold the film together.

Bottom Line:

With Love is entertaining and heartfelt, but it could have been more impactful with stronger execution.

Rating: 3/5
