His latest production, Funky, starring Vishwak Sen and directed by K.V. Anudeep, was released this Friday and received largely negative reviews from both audiences and critics. Instead of acknowledging the criticism, Naga Vamsi argued that the issue lies with viewers who expected a proper flow, story, or screenplay from a film directed by Anudeep.

Producer Naga Vamsi is known for consistently backing multiple films, but he is equally known for his outspoken nature. However, the way he promotes or defends his films against criticism often comes across as trying too hard rather than being confident.

He openly stated that he was aware the film did not follow traditional cinematic “grammar” or structure. According to him, the so-called flaws, including the lack of narrative flow and patchy editing, were intentional choices that suited Anudeep’s signature silly comedy style.

Responding to critics on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), he remarked that some were “acting like scientists” for pointing out flaws he had already warned audiences about before the film’s release.

While it is natural for any filmmaker to stand by their work and feel hurt by criticism, refusing to accept basic shortcomings in filmmaking shifts the blame unfairly onto the audience. Constructive criticism is part of cinema, and acknowledging it is just as important as defending creative choices.
