The Background
Hello Bachhon (2026) is a 5-episode Netflix series created by TVF (The Viral Fever). It dramatizes the journey of Alakh Pandey, founder of Physics Wallah, who transformed affordable online education in India. The series is currently streaming in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and other languages.
The Story
Based on the real-life story of Alakh Pandey, the series highlights his mission to make high-quality education accessible to JEE and NEET aspirants. It attempts to bridge the gap between complex academic concepts and relatable real-life struggles, showing how education can inspire hope and change.
The Good
The strongest aspect of Hello Bachhon is its focus on perseverance and hope among students. It portrays youngsters from diverse backgrounds and financial conditions, with heartfelt moments where their ambitions find success. A particularly emotional episode between Alakh and his father stands out.
Vineet Kumar Singh delivers a committed and heartfelt performance as Alakh Pandey. He is well supported by Vikram Kochhar and Girija Oak Godbole, who add depth in their supporting roles.
The Bad
Despite its sincerity, Hello Bachhon often feels like a polished promotional campaign for an educational institute. While it tries to show how Physics Wallah differs from other ed-tech platforms, the narration slips into formulaic storytelling.
Alakh Pandey is portrayed as flawless from the very beginning, a man of principles without weaknesses. Except for a brief emotional moment with his father, the series avoids showing his vulnerable side, making the character feel less organic.
The Worse
The series raises questions but leaves them unanswered. Why do so many teachers resign? What makes Alakh such an unparalleled teacher? The narrative does not explore how Alakh and Prateek built their institution or the dynamics with other teachers. A few scenes touch on this issue, such as Alakh telling Prateek that teachers have the right to decide their worth, but the exploration remains shallow.
The struggles of students are categorized across different backdrops, but the formulaic tone weakens their authenticity. For instance, a student’s suicide attempt due to exam pressure appears right near the end, serving mainly as a setup for Alakh’s emotional speech rather than a deeply explored storyline.
Takeaway
The series succeeds in delivering the message that trying is important, even if not everyone can be a winner. Vineet Kumar Singh’s performance, a few heartfelt scenes, dialogues, the climax speech and flashback stories of students reinforce this theme, though the execution could have been more nuanced.
Bottom Line
Hello Bachhon is an honest portrayal of IIT students and the coaching process, with some genuine heartfelt moments. Yet, it could have been more realistic and layered.
