Producer Nandipati Vamsi’s recent comments about the Nandi Awards have sparked controversy. He made these remarks in a light-hearted manner during the promotional event of the film Sampradayini Suppini Suddapoosani, starring Shivaji and Laya. However, the comments have now gone viral on social media and triggered criticism.
Nandipati Vamsi, who has recently earned a good reputation by producing and distributing quality films, praised actress Laya at the event. While appreciating her achievements, he jokingly said that “in those days, she raised Nandis (Nandi Awards) like pigs.” His statement did not go down well with netizens, who questioned why state government awards were being spoken about in a mocking manner.
Actress Laya has won the prestigious Nandi Awards — the highest honors in Telugu cinema — three times for her outstanding performances.
Here are the details of the Nandi Awards she received:
- Swayamvaram (1999): Laya made her debut as a heroine with this film and won the Nandi Special Jury Award for her very first performance.
- Manoharam (2000): She won her first Nandi Award for Best Actress for her performance in this film.
- Preminchu (2001): She created a record by winning the Nandi Award for Best Actress for the second consecutive year.
After a long gap of nearly 20 years, Laya is now making her comeback with the film Sampradayini Suppini Suddapoosani, in which she stars alongside Shivaji. The film is directed by Sudheer Sriram, and Shivaji is producing it under his home banner, Sri Shivaji Productions. The movie is scheduled to release in theatres on March 6.
